Chini harshly informs Sundar, Arpita, and Rupali that she would not wed any middle-class boy as she makes her way to the Rathore residence. What sort of behavior is this, Sundar queries. Let her speak, Arpita adds; the Rathore family does not adhere to the dowry system, thus Chini won't be returning to Imlie's home. Dowry goes to a girl's house, not a sister's. If she will say yes to that boy, Atharva inquires. Chini claims that she will commit herself since she cannot get angry waiting for Atharva and wants to marry him. She goes. When Atharva thinks of Imlie's remarks, she staggers. Holding him, Imlie inquires as to his wellbeing. Yes, he replies. She queries why he appears tense.
